Scanner improvising on Magnetic Resonator Piano

An excerpt of an improvisation on the Magnetic Resonator Piano at Magnetic Field, an installation by These New Puritans and Andrew McPherson in London.

Recorded at 180 The Strand London, 18th April 2014.

The Magnetic Resonator Piano (MRP) is an electronically-augmented acoustic piano which uses a series of magnets combined with sensors to resonate, bend and torment the piano’s strings, creating infinite sustain, crescendos, harmonics, pitch bends and incredible new timbres. It works similarly to the way an E-Bow works with a guitar but for a piano.
