Whispers and Dreams

For 400 years the words, themes and ideas of Shakespeare have permeated our language and history. Ambition, deceit, loyalty, corruption, fate, power, love and disguise defined our lives then as they do still today.

A recurring theme in Shakespeare’s work is the connection between fantasy and reality and this installation uses music and language to present a sonic world of whispers and dreams, taking harmonies from Early English music to act as a bed in which quotes taken from Shakespeare’s work are intimately whispered into the space. The words themselves are all quotes relating to dreams taken from his complete works. As the Bard himself once said: ‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.’
