As I write, there’s torrential rain pouring down in the UK for the first time in months, and as always there’s lots to share with you.
Juxtapositions by Boddy Scanner
Friday 4 September will be a busy day. It’s the official release date for my new studio album, Juxtapositions, with British musician Ian Boddy on his DiN label. We first performed together at the Subliminal Impulse festival in Manchester back in 2022, and though it took a while, we finally finished up the material for the album.
We operate in quite different sound worlds, but such diversity is often the catalyst for the best form of musical collaboration. The nine tracks on the album gently oscillate between hypnotic cycling patterns and nebulous, ambient soundscapes. The music plays as a continuous suite of tracks, which segue into each other and create a dream-like journey that constantly shifts the listener’s focus.
I have previously released two solo albums on the DiN imprint, namely An Ascent (2020) and The Homeland of Electricity (2022), so am thrilled to present this new release.
The album will be available here from 4 September and there will be a Listening Party the following week, free to everyone.
Feral Child 7″ single
On the same day I’ll also be releasing the last extremely limited quantities of my new 7” single just released on Feral Child. There are just 111 copies of this available and it sold out within a few hours of going on sale. I kept around 12 copies myself for sale, so these will be available, first come, first served, on Friday at Bandcamp only.
It features two unreleased pieces of music from the 1980s recorded in Southfields where I lived in South London. Tune in here on the day for the details
William S Burroughs Unreleased Tapes
And remarkably, on that very same day, I’m also performing live in London on 4 September at the Horse Hospital, as part of ‘Interzone: Burroughs & Beats Rewired.’ This is an entire weekend of celebrations exploring the legacy of the legendary American writer William S Burroughs and his on-going influence. I’m part of a round table in the afternoon chatting about art and sound, with Nicolas Ballet from Centre Pompidou, Adi Newton of Clock DVA and others.
In the evening I’ll be premiering a new 30-minute live performance using unheard cut-up tape recordings of Burroughs that I’ve been generously allowed access too. Everything will, of course, be recorded and catalogued.

‘Deleuze Unit’ album from 1996 which I performed with American musician David Shea
‘Twisted Artifacts,’ my second and final release with percussionist Pete Lockett, from 2007. It follows our debut from 2005 which featured celebrated trumpet player Jon Hassell
‘La Fenëtre Magique’ – a radio session recorded live for the last ever weekly ‘Magic Window’ radio show in August 2021. Available on limited red vinyl and digital

Machine Learning with Mark Fell
I’m excited to have my third feature in the latest issue of Sound-on-Sound magazine, this time celebrating the work of British musician Mark Fell.
Emerging from Sheffield’s fertile experimental scene and first gaining recognition through the influential duo SND, Fell has consistently explored the relationships between computational processes and human perception.
It was wonderful to chat with him, and learn about his early enthusiasm for The Human League, working in the duo SND and his many collaborations. After several hours of conversation, one thing became abundantly clear: Fell has never been interested in technology for its own sake. Every synthesiser, algorithm, programming language or piece of software offers different questions—about sound, perception, culture and the systems that quietly shape the way we create.
