Permanent 8-channel sound installation in Malagola, Ravenna, Italy
2026
Together. A simple word, almost weightless in the mouth, yet heavy with possibility. For this sound installation, I wanted to take that single word—spoken, whispered, fractured, overheard—and stretch it across the shifting emotional terrain of our current world. We live in a moment defined as much by distance as by connection, where unity feels essential yet increasingly fragile.
I recorded myself speaking this single word, then processed and transformed this recording into a drifting constellation of sound. Each iteration of together is stretched, folded, granulated or submerged, sometimes surfacing with clarity, sometimes dissolving into abstract textures. As the layers accumulate, they form a sonic ecology that is both intimate and collective, echoing the precarious balance of community today.

The installation is not a declaration but an invitation: to listen, to gather, to imagine a landscape in which disparate voices can coexist and resonate. In amplifying a single shared utterance, I aim to remind us that unity is not a fixed state but an ongoing act—porous, fragile, and profoundly human.
In this space, the word together becomes a chorus of many, a reminder that even in troubling and uncertain times, our connection to one another remains one of the most powerful forces we possess.
The work is permanently installed in the Malagola – Center for Vocal and Sound Research, directed by Ermanna Montanari and Enrico Pitozzi. The space is dedicated to offering different ways of viewing and listening to audiovisual materials from the most important and interesting archives in the field of vocal and sound research in relation to the contemporary scene.
